I went on to the website instead of calling the number in the email and in the online chat I explained that I believed I may be experiencing a phishing or fraudulent email. Now I can only wait and see if someone actually filed taxes with my info :( The rep claims her profile id is likely why I got the email. I called my friend today to make sure she didn't file with TurboTax this year. Note-He did see another profile id under my email but I created this for a good friend over 7 years ago and it's not been accessed/used since. Gave them the case number and once again a rep says no other email address is coming up linked to my personal info. Is the email from TurboTax or not? I'm really concerned because my identity was stolen and used during summer 2021. I was emailed a case number (and yes it's legit). I did get the call back and the helpful rep looked into it and did a search using my name, bd, and last 4 of social and no indication my info was used in another account. This time I was told I need to speak with someone in identity/security department -wait time of 30 min so a call back was put in. During the convo the call 'dropped' so I had to call back and explain everything again to a new rep. Called the number -rep was not knowledgeable. I received same email Thurs 7pm about someone using my info for a different TurboTax account. It was a breeze and I checked my account as of FEB 22,2022 it says: Your 2021 Tax Return Is Not Processed. IRS.GOV has a new log in system and they've partnered with ID.ME it sends a text or code to your phone anytime something changes with your info. BEFORE it would get to that point security personnel would call you directly to suggest that you contact the IRS and place a hold on anything with your social. The TurboTax reps informed me that they will never ask for your social unless the account is so far gone that they cannot find your info through normal (phone/DOB/email) means. The reps disproved this after speaking with them. There’s a guy stating that the number is directly from TurboTax. The sad part is that I googled the title of the email and there is a few community posts on TurboTax with people saying that the number IS from TurboTax and that they’ve called and given their social and more.
